Oh. my. goodness. Nigerians know how to party. Ugo & Fervent’s wedding actually spanned two days and it was packed with dancing, bright colors, eating, a dove release, and lots of beautiful people. If you’re not familiar with Nigerian weddings, this traditional Edo celebration will give you an amazing glimpse into some of the unique traditions and styles! One tradition that was new to me prior to this day, was a test that the groom has to pass in order to claim his bride. In a typical Edo wedding, the older women of the bride’s family bring “fake brides” and present them to the groom. These are often the bridesmaids or sisters whose heads are covered in cloth. The groom has to identify who his bride is, and if he is successful, she is then presented to her in-laws and handed over to her husband. Enjoy these moments!
